In Search of Belonging: Cultivating LGBTQIA2S+ Community
Does anyone else feel like we need community now more than ever?? I can only speak for myself in this, and I am noticing everyday that my system makes requests for community from me. But how do we seek out community, and what capacity does our community have to meet us where we are at this moment?
If you’re like me, “community” both feels abstract and also extremely clear. Like I know when I am in community, I can feel it in my bones and muscles. It feels abstract still because where/when do I seek this out? How do I know this community will welcome, accept, love, and witness me? But the trick is, how do we seek out community, when we are in desperate need of other humans.
Being a Neurodivergent (AuDHD), Queer/Bisexual, cis-gendered woman and therapist I have a deep understanding of the parts of myself that are seeking community, and the parts of myself that might rather hide or self-isolate. I am actively trying to work WITH these parts of myself, and one of the gifts that has emerged is my opportunity to create a community gathering space.
This spring, TheraPride has made the intentional decision to create a group space for members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and allies. We wanted to create a place for folks to both process what is happening moment to moment within our current political landscape, as well as a place to release and process the impacts on our bodies, minds and nervous systems.
Throughout the 8-week group, we will offer psycho education and practical skills that can be utilized in keeping our systems online and functioning in a meaningful way. This is a space for anyone who identifies anywhere within the community as well as those fiercely allied with us.
This will be a space where intersectionality is held and honored, as these nuances within us create the terrain through which we have to move and embody life day to day. If you find yourself hesitant, but still craving the nourishment of community witnessing and care, this is absolutely the group for you!
