Clinical Internships & PMHNP Preceptor Programs
Welcome to the starting point of your clinical career.
At Therapride, we invite you to join our CREW, a community grounded in Compassionate care, Restoration, Empowerment, and being Welcoming to all. These values guide how we care for our clients and how we support therapists in training.
We offer virtual mental health internship programs and PMHNP preceptor opportunities designed for emerging clinicians who want excellent supervision, meaningful clinical experience, and a sustainable, fulfilling career in mental health.
Mental Health Master’s Internships (Clinical Training Program)
Our mental health counseling internship program is built around three core pillars:
- Clinical Excellence – Learn how to provide ethical, effective, trauma-informed care across diverse populations.
- Personal Restoration – Develop tools to prevent burnout and sustain yourself as a thriving person, not just a clinician.
- Business Ingenuity – Gain insight into building a successful, sustainable career in today’s mental health landscape.
In short, we teach you:
- How to do excellent clinical work
- How to sustain yourself personally and professionally
- How to build a long-term, meaningful career as a therapist

Mental Health Internship & PMHNP Program FAQs
To help you determine whether our clinical internship or PMHNP preceptor program is the right fit, we’ve answered some of the most common questions below.
1. Scheduling
Interns in our mental health internship program create schedules that align with their academic commitments while meeting the required 15 hours per week. PMHNP students are matched with licensed therapists based on availability, allowing them to shadow psychotherapy sessions on scheduled days.
2. Client Population
We provide outpatient mental health care to a broad range of clients, including children, teens, adults, couples, families, and groups. Therapride is a fully affirming practice and welcomes individuals with diverse mental health needs.
3. Clinical Setting
Clients are seen in person at our Denton, Texas office and virtually across Texas, Colorado, and Maine. This hybrid model offers flexibility and accessibility for both interns and PMHNP students.
4. Teaching Style & Supervision
All interns work directly under Lisa Kjeseth, who oversees both the Mental Health Internship and PMHNP Preceptor Programs. PMHNP students have the opportunity to shadow multiple licensed therapists across the practice and benefit from learning alongside clinicians at various stages of licensure.
5. Professional Growth & Personal Restoration
Our programs emphasize more than clinical skill development. We are deeply committed to supporting the growth of the person behind the title, helping clinicians-in-training build careers that are sustainable, values-aligned, and deeply fulfilling.
6. Cost & Compensation
- The mental health internship program is unpaid
- PMHNP students pay $14 per psychotherapy session shadowed
Ongoing Training & Professional Development
Both programs include access to structured group trainings that enhance learning, community, and professional exposure:
- Weekly Team Consultations (PMHNP students only)
- Monthly Team Consultation
- Monthly Student Thriving Group
- Monthly Internship Consultation
- Monthly Clinical Training
- Semester Training on Self-Care with Live Q&A
